San Bernardino: Not Just a Terror Attack; a Long-Planned Terror Attack

From the midweek edition of the Morning Jolt:

San Bernardino: Not Just a Terror Attack; a Long-Planned Terror Attack

Everybody who spent the first day after the San Bernardino attack pushing the “workplace violence” theory should be a little more circumspect in the future.

Investigators believe shooter Syed Rizwan Farook may have been plotting an earlier attack in California with someone else, two U.S. officials told CNN on Tuesday. One of the officials said the two conspired in 2012 and a specific target was considered. The pair “got spooked” and decided not to go through with the earlier attack after a round of terror-related arrests in the area, an official said.

And sources also told CNN that investigators believe Tashfeen Malik, Farook’s wife and the other shooter who opened fire Wednesday, was radicalized at least two years ago.

Just think, Friday night, the family lawyer was telling the public she was a “typical housewife.”

Yeah, the quotes in this Washington Post story held up well:

“It’s very odd,” a senior U.S. law enforcement official said Thursday. “It appears they were a happy couple of the Muslim faith.”

… “It is possible that this is terrorist-related, but we don’t know,” President Obama said during somber remarks Thursday morning in the Oval Office. “It is also possible that this was workplace-related.”

‘Sanders Appeared Agitated’ – How Can They Tell?

Reminder: Hillary Clinton’s top Democratic challenger, Bernie Sanders, just doesn’t want to talk about ISIS:

But the message was partly overshadowed by a press conference in which reporters tried to press Sanders on the Islamic State. A campaign aide tried to waive reporters off asking about ISIS before Sanders appeared, arguing it was off topic. When a reporter ignored the request, Sanders appeared agitated and ended the press conference.

“What about ISIS, guys? How often do these people talking about the issues that we talked about today? Of course I’ll talk about ISIS,” Sanders said.

“But today what we’re talking about is a community in which half of the people don’t have jobs,” Sanders said. “We’re talking about a community in which there are hundreds of buildings that are uninhabitable.”

Look, America, maybe you missed the memo: Bernie Sanders is running to be president of the United States of 1996. He doesn’t want to deal with any of these 2015-2016 questions.
