Santorum, Romney Lead the Field

Results from new CNN/ORC poll of Republicans: Rick Santorum (34 percent), Mitt Romney (32 percent), Ron Paul (16 percent), and Newt Gingrich (15 percent). The margin of error is 4.5 points.

Sixty-eight percent think Romney will ultimately be the nominee, and only 35 percent would be upset or displeased if he was (as opposed to being pleased or enthusiastic). Fifty-five percent think Romney would have the best chance of beating Obama in the fall; only 18 percent think Santorum would have the strongest chance. However, only 38 percent of Romney voters support him “strongly,” while 55 percent of Santorum voters view themselves as strong supporters.
