But even in your disappointment you shouldn’t be grasping at the Schneider straw about Bush registering low, which makes no sense in or out of context. I repeat: There was a jump of 25 percent, from 42 percent to 67 percent, among those who watched the speech and their favorable opinion of the policies promulgated. And a 79 percent favorability rating overall. Those are stratospheric numbers by any reckoning in the wake of a presidential address.
