‘Seagull Visits’

In today’s installment of the Oslo Journal, I go on and on about torture, rape, and the other elements of human-rights stories. Then, for relief, I indulge in some light items — for example, I talk about what whiners seagulls are. (Oslo has its share of them.) Seagulls are among the whiniest creatures on earth.

A reader writes, “When I was managing overseas manufacturing plants for an oil-field-equipment company based in Houston, we referred to visits from HQ personnel as ‘seagull visits’: They fly in, squawk a lot, eat all your food, crap all over the place, then fly out.”

Beautiful.
