In response to Re: The Hearing
Last night, I took stock of Sean Penn’s interview with cartel jefe “El Chapo” in the latest Rolling Stone, and I include this nugget, straight from Penn’s pen:
Unlike many of his counterparts who engage in gratuitous kidnapping and murder, El Chapo is a businessman first, and only resorts to violence when he deems it advantageous to himself or his business interests.
For an actor who adores old-fashioned Latin American commies, Penn occasionally seems almost impressed by El Chapo’s business chops. Which got me thinking: Lefties like Penn spent 2012 screaming from the rooftops of their Malibu mansions about the “ruthless,” “cutthroat” businessman Republicans nominated for president.
Apparently, Mitt Romney’s problem was that he wasn’t “cutthroat” literally. If only he had whacked some Central American peasants during his years at Bain Capital, he would have swept to victory on a unity ticket!
