In 2009, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the president’s pastor of 20 years, was asked whether he had spoken to the president recently. He said, “Them Jews ain’t gonna let him talk to me.” In Impromptus today, I write, “Now that Obama is safely reelected, will them Jews let him talk to Wright? Or will them Jews insist that Obama wait until he’s out of office?” I add, “After the midterms maybe?”
I’ve thought of one of my favorite George W. Bush moments. He’s at the 2002 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, also attended by Ozzy Osbourne. The latter points to his very funky tresses and says, “Mr. President, you should wear your hair like mine!” Bush responds, “Second term, Ozzy, second term.”
In my column, I also mention the Reverend Wright’s famous sermon after 9/11: “America’s chickens are comin’ home to roost!” You never saw anyone happier, I swear. And this brings us to Richard A. Falk, the U.N. “human rights” official and Princeton professor. UN Watch highlighted his latest performance here.
Commenting on the Boston bombing, Falk wrote, “Should we not all be meditating on W.H. Auden’s haunting line: ‘Those to whom evil is done/do evil in return’?”
More Falk: “The American global domination project is bound to generate all kinds of resistance in the post-colonial world. In some respects, the United States has been fortunate not to experience worse blowbacks, and these may yet happen, especially if there is no disposition to rethink US relations to others in the world, starting with the Middle East. Some of us naively hoped that Obama’s Cairo speech of 2009 was to be the beginning of such a process of renewal . . .”
Can you stand one more? “The war drums are beating at this moment in relation to both North Korea and Iran, and as long as Tel Aviv has the compliant ear of the American political establishment, those who wish for peace and justice in the world should not rest easy.”
The United States, I believe, contributes 22 percent of the U.N.’s budget. Now that Jesse Helms is gone, is anyone trying to hold these malevolent clowns accountable? Anyone in Congress, I mean? (We can forget the executive branch for a while.)
As for Princeton, what can you do? There are no doubt worse professors than Falk there . . .
(A quick reminder: One hundred fifty-seven faculty or staff at Princeton contributed to Obama or Romney. One hundred fifty-five of them contributed to Obama. The two who contributed to Romney were a visiting lecturer in engineering education and a janitor — who told a student reporter that he had given to Romney out of pro-life convictions.)
