Let me modify what I said earlier: A deal along the lines I mentioned–basically, an enforcement-only bill, with a few sweeteners for selected business lobbies to cut down on the pressure for a “comprehensive” bill–would, I think, have been doable if key players had pushed in that direction a few months ago.
