It’s bad enough that the Senators would rather talk themselves than let Alito answer, but Schumer doesn’t even listen on the rare occasions when he lets Alito speak. He asked Alito whether there was a constitutional argument that could be made in favor of denying citizenship to native-born children of illegal aliens. Without endorsing the argument, Alito cited language in the Fourteenth Amendment (“subject to the jurisdiction thereof”), but Schumer then declared that Alito has refused to answer the question.
