Virginia Sen. Jim Webb professes to opposes amnesty and the bill, but is undecided on cloture on the motion to proceed expected tomorrow. Understandably, it takes freshmen senators a while to figure out how the senate works, but the Democratic freshman from Missouri Claire McCaskill–who has announced her intention to vote no on cloture– recognizes that a vote for cloture is a step toward final passage. Virginia voters who appreciate Webb’s stated opposition to the bill shouldn’t be fooled–if he votes for cloture, he has made Ted Kennedy’s work easier for him.
