Senate Votes on Immigration

The bad news is that the Senate yesterday killed an amendment to one of the funding bills that would have penalized pro-illegal-immigration sanctuary cities with a loss of certain law-enforcement funds, something the House had already added to its version of the bill (after unsuccessful attempts in previous years). The good news is that the GOP leadership was on the right side, as were even many of the usual open-borders suspects (see the vote here; a “yes” vote is against the measure). Though Specter, Hagel, Lugar, Stevens, Collins, and Snowe voted to protect sanctuary cities, McCain, Brownback, Martinez, and others were unexpectedly on the right side (but Landrieu was the only good Democrat vote).

Also, the fact that there were only 52 votes on the anti-enforcement side bodes ill for upcoming amnesty efforts like …. the DREAM Act, which Numbers USA is reporting may be offered as an amendment to the Labor/HHS spending bill that the Senate is debating right now.
