Senator Durbin and the CDC

Senators Durbin and Welch, at a hearing earlier this week, made false claims about abortions late in pregnancy, as I elaborate on the homepage.

Durbin said that he was getting his information about why women have abortions late in pregnancy from the Centers for Disease Control via staff. I noted that the CDC’s main report on abortion does not include any information on this question.

Now I have an update. A spokesman for the CDC emailed me: “We don’t have any other abortion surveillance reports beyond the annual one.  You are correct, the reports do not describe reasons for abortion.”

This is more evidence to support my suspicion that Durbin’s remarks were based on a CNN.com article, not on anything from the CDC.

Remember, you read about Durbin’s disinformation here first — because you won’t read about it anywhere else.
