Mark, your pre-emptive criticism of Sen. Kyl on immigration seems to be premised on your earlier contention that “if Jon Kyl makes a deal with Ted Kennedy, then amnesty will pass the Senate; if not, not.” What gives you that impression? Given that a more liberal version of the bill passed in the last Senate, and that opponents of that bill such as Allen and Talent were defeated, what gives you that confidence? Kyl might well believe that the real choices before him are a worse deal or a better one.
