Although the Vice President said he hadn’t met John Edwards until their encounter on the stage last evening, we now know there is a photograph of them apparently in each other’s company at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2001. Cheney obviously made a forgivable mistake. It’s not his fault Senator Edwards is the kind of guy who makes little impression. I’m having trouble remembering whether or not Edwards spoke at the Democratic Convention. He must have because veep candidates always do, but I can’t for the life of me remember a thing he said. If Cheney had any recollection of meeting Edwards previously he obviously wouldn’t have claimed otherwise when it could so easily be refuted. Democrats should use Cheney’s mistake in Edwards’ defense. Could the Committee attendance records be wrong? Maybe Edwards was there but no one remembers him.
