Here’s the Arizona Republic story on Rep. Shadegg’s decision to seek re-election, after initially saying that he would retire from the House. Freddoso had the scoop last night. I’m glad Shadegg is coming back because he’s a principled conservative. My guess is that this strange interlude won’t affect his re-election–although he has a fairly well-funded opponent, Arizona’s third congressional district is Bush-friendly (58 percent in 2004) and Shadegg won his last re-election easily (59 percent in 2006). I also wonder if he’s positioning himself to succeed John McCain, whose Senate seat is up in 2010 if he doesn’t leave it sooner.
