Shameful Days in America: Funding Planned Parenthood Again

Pro-life groups have been insisting that Congress and the White House act to keep Planned Parenthood defunded. Crickets. We hear crickets.

We should be deeply ashamed about something that happened this weekend.

“Defunding Planned Parenthood” expired.

Hoopla was made about that Big, Beautiful defunding last year. This year?

Pro-life groups have been insisting that Congress and the White House act to keep Planned Parenthood defunded.

Crickets. We hear crickets.

That’s because the administration is no longer interested in pro-life voters.

Oh, but: There’s been recent confirmation that there is an FDA study of the safety of mifepristone. And an anonymous member of Congress says we should expect results by September.

An anonymous member of Congress?

If the administration were interested in the safety of abortion pills, we wouldn’t have had to wait this long. And I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath for new restrictions or bad news for the abortion industry before the midterm elections.

Oh, and, by the way, you can still get abortion pills through the mail without a doctor’s visit. That’s been in place since Covid, a priority of the Biden administration. That should have ended a long time ago — should have never started. But that would require an administration that cares about protecting innocent human life and humane health care for their mothers.

And even before Medicaid funding of Planned Parenthood became a federal thing again this weekend, according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute:

11 states have increased funding to Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses since the One Big Beautiful Bill Working Families Tax Cuts was signed: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Washington. Collectively, these states represent a total of at least $202.5 million in supplemental funding for Planned Parenthood or similar abortion businesses.

“Now that Planned Parenthood is receiving our Medicaid dollars again, Planned Parenthood has more bandwidth to fund the GOP’s political opponents,” Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America Communications Director Kelsey Pritchard says over e-mail.

As we celebrated the 250th anniversary of our nation founded on the right to life, funding resumed to the Big Abortion businesses that profit from stripping that right away from a record number of Americans and increasing our top cause of death year after year. It is the default expectation of the pro-life movement for Congress to renew the defunding of Planned Parenthood and abortion businesses, and the politically smart thing for Republicans who must energize the base to win in November. SBA is doing our part by investing $160 million in 2026 and 2028 for Republican pro-life candidates, now Republicans must do their part in doing everything they can to once again defund Big Abortion.

And I think it’a safe to say that Abby Johnson’s patience is gone for abortion politics — and understandably and righteously so. Abby is a former Planned Parenthood clinic director in Texas. She now runs And Then There Were None — which is an under-the-radar, powerful pro-life ministry: It helps people who work at abortion clinics get out and find another way to make a living — and to find some of the healing and other resources they may need. “This is what happens when the pro-life movement as a whole throws millions of dollars behind candidates who have little to no pro-life convictions. President Trump is not the ‘most pro-life president ever’ and neither is his Administration. Primaries matter. Elections matter. Once again, pro-lifers have been had and more babies will be aborted on the taxpayer’s dime.”

Put not your trust in princes, of course. And that’s not a “No Kings” statement (although aren’t we glad we did that 250 years ago?!). It is a reminder that this issue is the human-rights issue of our lives and has more to do than with any political party or candidate. It’s about good and evil and the end of the darkness of the culture of death that immiserates human lives when it does not extinguish them.

Please don’t talk to me about how many Planned Parenthoods have shut down. Planned Parenthood is currently using that to fundraise, as some pro-life groups have, too.

Do something to help make abortion implausible in someone’s life right now. Show love. Show up. Open a maternity home. Get certified to foster. Become a court-appointed special advocate. We all have our roles in helping children who are alive and those who might not otherwise get the opportunity to live.
