I received piles of email about the shellfish query I posted yesterday. I didn’t think it was appropriate to fill the corner with them, given weightier issues. The consensus is: don’t buy oysters or other bi-valve mollusks (heh, my favorite phrase from 10th grade biology) or catfish unless you’re sure they’re from some place other than the gulf coast. Lots of folks told me there was no significant shrimp farming in the region and that most shrimp were caught wild. I could have sworn shrimp farming was catching on here. But, whatever, everyone says don’t eat catfish or shellfish from the area for a while.
