The continuing fallout from the ruckus on the House floor last night over the motion to recommit the ag funding bill with instructions to prohibit any funds going to illegal aliens means that the leadership may have to call it a day and leave for the August recess without taking up the anti-energy bill and the accompanying tax bill. The Rules Committee did not adopt a rule for either bill last night and, as far as we can find out, have not yet done so today. The House is in recess while leaders discuss how to proceed from the vote last night. If they do proceed to the anti-energy bills, they will either have to adopt a very restrictive rule that allows only a few amendments or stay through the weekend and probably into Monday. The poisonous partisan atmosphere must help chances of avoiding this disastrous piece of legislation.
