Smokers and Smoking

Of course, Jonah, smokers have the right to smoke. But the public-health campaign over the past few decades has made them feel guilty about it. This is why efforts to organize smokers into a bloc to defend their prerogatives have been so unsuccessful — because who is willing to make a positive case for smoking? I submit no one is. Therefore, there’s no constituency against smoking bans, except for bar owners.

And for all you who keep e-mailing me, I repeat: I’m against smoking bans. But we’ve LOST. Lost the argument. Lost Lost Lost.
