From a spoof news story sent by a correspondent: “Elsewhere, President Bush urged legal status for 11 million illegal aliens in the hopes that some of them will approve of the job he is doing as President.”
Seriously, though, the president has got to offer a public critique of the illegal-alien marches, especially since he’s going to Mexico this week to yuk it up with Vicente Fox. It’s OK if he repeats the usual blather about “comprehensive” reform, and “family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande,” yada yada yada, but it’s incumbent on him that he chastise them, even if it’s in diplomatic terms. These protests — with their ubiquitous Mexican flags, open claims of irredentism, and support from the Mexican government — are a direct challenge to the American regime, and must not go unanswered.
I’m not holding my breath.
