From a reader:
I read your post on alligator deaths. I know it was meant to be funny, but the young daughter of a friend (and client) of mine was just found dead in the mouth of one of these creatures. I cannot explain the shock and horror I felt at being notified of this. I have lost friends to slow, agonizing death by cancer and disease, but somehow, nothing compares to this horror.
I suppose it is deep in the race to fear being killed and eaten, maybe especially by a reptile. All I know is, it took me several hours before I could concentrate again, and I am still horrified….
Anyway, the families and friends of people who have been killed by these alligators might not find your post funny. I know it is a small number, but I hope you will understand that the recent spate of attacks has left a number of Americans in abject horror, and not a little fear. I respectfully suggest some recognition of that might be in order.
Love your blog & magazine.
