One of my shticks is to blast “social justice,” as a phrase and as a concept. I do so again in today’s Impromptus. I also take after “history,” or, even worse, “History.” President Obama says that those who supported his health-care bill “answered the call of history” (or did he mean “History”?). You know, I have an outlook on health care, too: I favor a lightly regulated market. But I don’t call it “history.”
In any case, a reader wrote me about “social justice” – and I thought you’d enjoy his note:
Hello, Jay,
Your column today reminded me of an old saying in my community: “There are two types of rabbis: those who preach social justice and those who can read Hebrew.”
Beautiful.
