The WSJ’s Kimberly Strassel becomes the latest conservative commentator to take on Mike Huckabee. While superficially appealing, she notes Huckabee’s nomination would redefine contemporary conservatism.
If Mr. Huckabee does turn out to be everything Republicans “want” or “need” in a conservative, it will only be because the definition of a conservative has morphed to include tax hiking, protectionism, corporate scolding and an unserious approach to foreign policy.
She forgot to mention nanny-state regulation, such as his support for a national smoking ban. How long would it take before he started pushing federal regulation of fat content? As President, he and Rep. Henry Waxman might get along swell.
