Okay, just one more reader response, to today’s Impromptus. (One more response for now, maybe I should say.) We were talking about women who express extreme wifely devotion by taking a name that may not go terribly well with their first name.
My wife’s cousin is named Joe Judy. He married a girl whose first name is — ready? — Judy. Yup: Joe and Judy Judy.
MEA CULPA: As Roberto de Vicenzo said when he signed an incorrect scorecard at the Masters, “What a stupid I am.” I had originally associated “Judy, Judy, Judy” with Cagney – and it is Cary Grant. I think I’ll leave movie lore alone for a year or two . . .
