Made the acquaintance of a great and funny Texas talk show host yesterday–plugging Legacy, of course–and when I asked how he was he said, “Any happier and I’d be twins.” He called the office a while ago to follow up on something and when my assistant asked how he was he said, “Any happier and I’d pay dividends.” Just wondering: Are these well-known Southernisms and are they part of a series, e.g. “Any happier and I’d be a clam,” etc., etc?
