In the latest AEI Political Report, one of the poll questions struck me as particularly interesting. Respondents in various countries were asked if they agreed with this statement: “Free trade can significantly contribute to my country coming out of the recession.” To anyone familiar with modern economics, this question has an obvious answer. Unfortunately, only 48 percent of U.S. respondents agreed with the statement. Here are the percentages of agreement in other countries:
My guess is that if Northern Italy was broken out, its sentiments would lie closer to the American/German pole rather than the French/Spanish one. Ditto for London and its environs.
