I’ve been reading chunks of Tim Weiner’s Legacy of Ashes and it’s just brutal — and relentlessly so — about the general incompetence and stupidity of the CIA. Indeed, it is so relentless that it almost makes me think it simply can’t be fair. Surely the CIA — and before that the OSS — did something right over the last half-century? I’ll dig up some reviews to see what people who know more about this stuff than I do have to say. But if you’re looking for ammo for why the CIA should be torn down and rebuilt from scratch, this seems to be your book.
