I was struck that even David Brooks said Obama was headed toward transforming America into France on the NewsHour Friday. But I highly doubt that the moderates–Brooks, Susan Collins, et al–are going to pull Obama back with the irresistible brilliance of their middle-of-the-roadism. Republicans are going to have to try to use every ounce of their (much diminished) power to pull apart Obama’s program and defeat as much of it as they can, with cap-and-trade the juiciest initial target. There’s a lesson in here somewhere for “Obamacons” about the inadvisability of electing liberal Democrats president. (Here’s my latest take on Obama and spending, by the way.)
