There was some good press for the anti-Specter-as-chairman-side yesterday. When I check in with people they really don’t know what to say, because it is still all moving. Which means you talking to the Senate is helping.
Bottom line: Does Specter become chairman? Let’s say: It’s still plausible he’s not. Seems to me, keep going as long as there is some sense out there of plausibility. And so what happens if he becomes chairman? He is chastened. Maybe he has to commit to something real-like filibuster reform. Great. You’ve done your job. Questionable whether Judiciary committee members would have-they had a real shot at getting a chairman with the right temperament.
