The Corner

A Spoken Aria

This month and last, we have offered episodes in The Human Parade, with Jay Nordlinger. There have been politicians — (the late) Ed Koch and Jeb Bush. There has been a great scholar, Bernard Lewis. There has been a writer, Mark Helprin. There has been a pianist and conductor, plus an expert on the Soviet Union — Ignat Solzhenitsyn. And today, there is another musician, Renée Fleming, the American soprano, one of the most important singers in the world. For a brief highlights reel of the series at large, go here.

Jay interviewed Miss Fleming in May 2011, in her Manhattan home. The two discussed a great range of questions concerning the singing life.
