Stand-off in Toulouse

The stand-off in Toulouse between the police and an Islamic jihadist who attacked and killed kids at a Jewish school continues, though probably not for much longer. The man says he’ll surrender this afternoon just as soon as he wraps up some unfinished business, like posting a video of his rampage and, of course, issuing statements. France 24 is carrying remote coverage, and the news channel’s website is live-blogging the drama in English.

The claim by the terrorist that he was seeking revenge for Palestinian children — amplified, as Mark reported yesterday, by the EU’s Catherine Ashton — caused the Palestinians in Paris to run for cover. According to a TF1 report, P.A. leaders quickly distanced themselves from schoolyard slaughter as a strategy — at least outside Israel.
