A propos Governor Romney and abortion, a reader (self-described as “a Republican, perhaps a libertarian, but I’ll not vote for anyone who is anti-abortion”) responds:
“The state does not have a compelling interest in inserting itself into reproduction decisions by individuals.”
In Russia, according to some surveys, 70 per cent of pregnancies end in abortion. Hard to argue that the state doesn’t have a compelling interest in changing those reproduction decisions. If it doesn’t, there won’t be a state.
