Steele on Steyn on Obama

Today on Uncommon Knowledge, I read Mark Steyn to Shelby Steele.

“The president-elect’s so-called tax cut,” Mark wrote soon after the election,

will absolve 48 percent of Americans from paying any federal income tax at all.  Just under half the population will be on the dole.  By 2012 it will be more than half.  This will be an electorate where the majority will be able to vote itself more lollipops from the minority still dumb enough to prioritize self-reliance, dynamism and innovation over the cocoon of the nanny state….That will be the death of the American idea.

How does the author of A Bound Man reply?

Right.  But you know what’s interesting to me about that?  No white candidate in America could have won an election based on those policies.  That’s the interesting and insidious thing to me.  No white man—John Edwards could never have won an election based on policies like that.  So the price America is paying for its racial history is this reversion.  And that same racial moral authority is going to be Obama’s biggest weapon as president.  Who is going to want to stand in his way?  Because whites are still motivated by race, the dummies.

In the new film (not a reboot but a sequel that occurs 40 years after the events in the 1978 original and ... Read More
