A String of Falsehoods

MoveOn.org, in an e-mail to members:

Here’s the most important thing you need to know about the Republicans’ new budget plan: It abolishes Medicare within 10 years.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, in a recent ad:

Seniors will have to find $12,500 for health care because Republicans voted to end Medicare…Because Republicans voted to end Medicare.

Bill Maher, on Real Time with Bill Maher:

This Ryan plan for Medicare … is to … get rid of Medicare as we have known it, give seniors a $15,000 voucher to buy Medicare, which probably does not cover the health costs for a lot of seniors. Not to mention, what insurance company is going to want to sell insurance to a 75-year-old sick person? Well, what happens when you run out of the $15,000? You get sick and die.

President Obama, from his “budget” speech at George Washington University:

[Ryan’s plan for Medicare is] a voucher program that leaves seniors at the mercy of the insurance industry, with a shrinking benefit to pay for rising costs.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D., Texas), speaking on the House floor:

The Republican budget will destroy Medicare…

There is an effort to bury this program that has kept the grandmothers and granddads and America’s children alive for them to be able to see their grandchildren grow up because they’ve had good healthcare. Where is the morality?

I just want to paint the picture of ‘no room at the inn:’ ‘Lights out, doors wide open and the drumbeat playing as people are being rolled out of nursing homes in wheelchairs, with crutches, some on beds.

Maybe we can just imagine the tragic scenes of Hurricane Katrina, when nursing home residents were pouring out of nursing homes in the wake of the disaster…Well let me tell you we’ve got Hurricane Ryan, and there’s a disaster coming.
