Nearly everyone believed that “the fix was in” else Obama would not have made the trip to Copenhagen. But what did Obama have to gain by going to Copenhagen? He would have received (or taken) credit if Chicago had gotten the Games anyway. Isn’t it also possible that Obama knew, or had been tipped, that Chicago was lacking votes and actually believed he could fly in and save the day? That scenario is more in line with Obama’s high opinion of his own persuasive abilities – and opinion that is increasingly at odds with the facts.
