The Suicide Bomb

Apropos my weekend column, a Quebec reader suggests that the Obama Administration should reclassify “terrorism” as “assisted suicide.” But these days civilizational suicide doesn’t need a lot of assistance. Compare and contrast:

From The Sydney Morning Herald:

The Anglican Church wants Australians to have fewer children and has urged the federal government to scrap the baby bonus and cut immigration levels.

The General Synod of the Anglican Church has issued a warning that current rates of population growth are unsustainable and potentially out of step with church doctrine – including the eighth commandment “thou shall not steal”, Fairfax newspapers say.

In a significant intervention, the Anglican Public Affairs Commission has also warned concerned Christians that remaining silent “is little different from supporting further overpopulation and ecological degradation”.

On the other hand, consider this story from La Nouvelle Gazette, about a Catholic church in Charleroi, Belgium, that has agreed to share its space with a fast-growing mosque. Underneath the happy talk (aux hommes de bonne volonté, tout est possible) is a story of sweeping demographic transformation. In interviews, the priest, Father Rémy, says he’d love it if there were as many people at his services as at the Muslim prayers. But, for non-francophones, you don’t need to know the lingo when you watch the local TV report: Look at the symbols of the Catholic faith being covered up for Muslim worship. The mosque’s spokespersons are all young men; the Catholic Church is represented by the lonely Father Rémy, 89.

The bone-crushingly stupid leadership of the Anglican Church says go forth but don’t multiply. The future belongs to those who do, and the future is already here.
