Sunlight Is the Best Disinfectant

My piece on the homepage today takes note of “Immigrant Heritage Month,” a marketing campaign by Facebook billionaire Mark Zuckerberg for legislation to increase his and his pals’ access to cheap Indian software drones. In it I mention Disney World’s firing of about 250 American tech workers and their replacement with foreign workers on H-1b visas; the fired Americans were subjected to the further indignity of having to train their replacements as a condition of their severance package. which prompted demands for an investigation by the Labor Department from a bipartisan group of Senators and was the subject of a front-page New York Times story earlier this month.

Well, it seems that once Disney’s suits heard “Senate,” “investigation,” and “New York Times,” they ordered damage control. The Disney World people are still fired but a smaller group at ABC (owned by Disney) that was also to be replaced by foreign workers was told they would not be replaced after all. In today’s Times, one of the replace-ees says, “We were told our jobs were continuing and we should consider it as if nothing had happened until further notice.”

And speaking of Immigrant Heritage Month, one of my colleagues played with the logo Zuckerberg is using for his fake commemoration:
