Supremes Decline to Revisit Refusal to Examine Trump’s E. Jean Carroll Appeal

With no comment, meaning no reported dissent, the Supreme Court on Monday declined to rehear President Trump’s appeal of the first E. Jean Carroll case, in which the journalist won a $5 million verdict against him, awarded by a federal jury in Manhattan that found him liable for sexual assault and defamation.

Last month, I explained why I believed there was no possibility that the justices would grant rehearing after they had declined (on June 29, at the end of the Court’s term) to review Trump’s appeal, which had been roundly rejected by the Second Circuit. For readers interested in revisiting this tawdry episode, I’ve opined on both why the Court did not grant review and why Trump’s appeal of the second E. Jean Carroll case is also unlikely to get a welcome reception from the justices. These posts link to NR’s coverage of the two cases, which was extensive.
