Sure Sign Bolton Fight Has Dragged On Too Long

Even I’m beginning to get bored with it. But it will be with us a while longer. The Democrats worked themselves up into a tizzy again yesterday over these NSA intercepts they’ve been demanding. The White House isn’t handing them over, prompting steadily less-ambitious demands from the Democrats. Dodd’s latest proposal was just to get an assurance from Negroponte that no names related to various intelligence disputes that Bolton was involved in appeared in the intercepts. But the administration is rejecting even that, I think because it takes Dodd’s proposal as a sign of weakness. It wants to try to gut it out, not giving up anything and picking up the two additional votes it needs for cloture by some other means. Stay tuned…
