In her first Sunday-show appearance since the September 2012 Benghazi attacks, National Security Adviser Susan Rice sat down with Meet the Press host David Gregory and called claims that she misled the American people about the nature of the attacks “patently false.”
“What I said to you that morning and what I did every day since was to share the best information that we had at the time,” she said. “The information I provided, which I explained to you was what we had at the moment, it could change.”
Ultimately, the explanation she provided “turned out, in some respects, not to be 100 percent correct,” Rice continued, and she had no regrets about her appearances.
In 2012, then serving as the United States ambassador to the United Nations, Rice appeared on all the Sunday shows to blame the attacks that resulted in the death of four Americans on an offensive YouTube video, although evidence later suggested the attack was preplanned. Rice’s talking points drew criticism from Republicans, with some suspecting the administration of misleading the public in the midst of President Obama’s reelection campaign.
