The Republican governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez, easily won reelection tonight. She currently leads her Democratic opponent by more than 15 points (with a small share of precincts reporting), in a state that went for President Obama by ten points. Former Democratic governor Bill Richardson predicted just a couple weeks ago that Martinez’s Democratic opponent could defeat her, but it doesn’t look like he ever stood a chance.
Martinez, a popular Hispanic governor, is considered a possible vice-presidential pick for Republicans in 2016, or maybe even a dark-horse White House contender herself. Jay Nordlinger has profiled her for National Review a couple times.
