Was it the mustachios that tipped them off? Via Foreign Policy:
For years, Sweden has been the favorite destination for unaccompanied children seeking asylum in Europe. . . . But lately, some of these recent arrivals have appeared — at least according to their fellow asylum-seekers and Swedish officials — well, mature for their ages. . . .
Now as part of the recent reversal of its open-door asylum policy, the government is considering making age-determination tests standard practice for unaccompanied minors. The test, which involves dental and wrist-bone X-rays, can usually determine a young person’s age within a one-year margin. A Justice Ministry spokesman told Foreign Policy that a proposal is expected within the next six months.
When you can comfortably hit the low D in Il Seraglio, you’re probably not a “minor.” But in the interests of “compassion,” Swedish authorities apparently have preferred a state of massive denial. Consider this statistic:
Migration Agency figures show that 46 percent the unaccompanied minors who applied for asylum in Sweden last year were males giving their age as 16 or 17. Another 40 percent were males ages 13 to 15.
Nope. No way. Nine out of ten asylum-seekers were within a four-year age range? Not a chance.
Because refugees are coming thick and fast, the exact numbers of impostors is sketchy, but we can extrapolate. Here’s Radio Sweden — in 2010:
It’s very difficult to say for sure how many people lie about their age when coming as refugees, but a study using dental tests in Norway revealed that 9 out of 10 underage refugee children were actually older than 18. The Migration Board in Sweden hasn’t done any such studies, but it does say that they have to adjust ages upwards in 15 percent of cases.
In 2009, 2,250 “child” refugees came to Sweden; according to the Migration Board, during the summer and fall of 2015, 1,000 to 2,000 child refugees were arriving every week.
It’s not at all difficult to believe that Sweden is suffering not only a massive refugee crisis, but a massive refugee fraud. And not only is such a situation profoundly unfair to actual children who might need a refuge from violence, it’s sure to put Sweden at greater risk, given the typical profile of criminals and terrorists — overwhelmingly young and male.
When people talk about European countries committing suicide by stupidity, this is what they’re talking about.
