Taking The Windfall Out of Their Sails

Economic know-nothingism was dealt a blow yesterday when, despite all the hype, the Senate voted 65-33 against Sen. Schumer’s attempt to impose a windfall profits tax on the oil industry. With gas prices down below $2 in some areas near the nation’s capital, it looks like this attempt to penalize industry for doing its job correctly has, erm, peaked.
