Test Case for Border Security

Janice Kephart, formerly on the 9/11 Commission staff, has a piece up on the recent case of an Indian visa fraudster, initially believed to be involved with terrorism, and what it tells us about improvements (and lack thereof) in immigration security. In short, the only reason the guy’s immigration fraud was discovered was that he was stopped by TSA on the way to his one-way flight to Washington carrying box cutters and a homemade battery strapped to his MP3 player. I mean, really, if you’re carrying that stuff and you’re really not a terrorist, or trying a dry-run of security on behalf of terrorists, you ought to be locked up just for stupidity — like that scene from Ruthless People: “This could very well be the stupidest person on the face of the Earth.”
