The Corner

Thank You, Racine!

I was a last-minute substitute speaker at a Tea Party/Americans For Prosperity rally in Racine, Wisconsin, over the weekend. It was a great time with just about the nicest people in the universe. Because my wife was away, I had to bring my daughter with me. She had a fantastic time, in part because we stayed at the Milwaukee Hilton with the waterpark in the basement (from the adult perspective, it was a frothy, un-hygienic soup of bacteria and stinging chemicals, but she loved it). But Lucy also got to work the concession stand (she was paid in potato chips). It was just a great event, run with both the discipline of a serious political operation and the chaotic enthusiasm of a grassroots uprising. Paul Ryan did a fantastic job, as one would expect. From my conversations out there, I’m very bullish for a Feingold defeat, by the way.

Anyway, I chatted with a fellow from the MacIver Institute during the event. He was a nice guy, but he was underwhelmed by my jokes about how he must know how to turn a clock radio and some twine into an orbital laser. Apparently, the Left in the state has already used up all the MacGyver jokes. Anyway, you can read about all that, here.
