The Better Poll Still Isn’t That Comforting

John, the Gallup poll is better, but still not great:

The 38% of U.S. adults who say they are ‘extremely proud’ to be American is the lowest in Gallup’s trend, which began in 2001.

Also, methodologies and particular numbers aside, perhaps most disturbing data in both polls is the low numbers among young people relative to everyone else. Gallup has fewer than 50 percent of 18-to-34-year-olds saying they are extremely or very proud of their country. Maybe it’s always been thus and people age into patriotism, but I’m not so sure.

Regardless, there’s clearly erosion in an attitude that’s fundamental to the health of a nation.
