In my post below, I noted how we should be cautious about the BuzzFeed report, a point that didn’t require any insight. Now the special counsel’s office has disputed it, and it looks like we’ve all been taken for a ride again.
It doesn’t matter how many times the cycle repeats of someone running with an anonymously sourced bombshell report that drives a news cycle’s worth of dire analysis of the impending end of the Trump presidency; it always happens again. A media in a struggle with a president who constantly belittles and discredits it seems determined to do his work for him.
It’d be great if this time drove home to news organizations the need to exercise more care about this stuff across the board, but it seems doubtful.
(As for impeachment, per my point below, I don’t think it changes anything — they’ll still find a reason to impeach him.)
