Assuming that Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover goes through, aren’t the primary winners the current shareholders? They are going to get a guaranteed premium on their investment, likely in excess of anything they should have expected given the current management.
Musk says that he has plans to unlock the value of Twitter, supposedly making it more valuable in a commercial sense. But he seems clearly motivated by non-commercial reasons. He wants to seize control of the most powerful shaper of public opinion among the Western chattering classes. Redesigning it for different outcomes is an attractive project for anyone ambitious.
