The Immigration Game

Today on The Editors, Rich is joined by Charlie, Maddy, and Dominic to discuss Biden’s border-wall news. Charlie is fired up about it, calling the actions around this topic “Calvinball.”

“When Donald Trump is president, its ‘kids in cages,’” he reminds listeners. “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez goes to the border in her white clothes, and she cries for the camera. Rachel Maddow cries on air. Jim Acosta shows up at the White House and starts reading ‘The New Colossus.’ We get images of the Statue of Liberty crying.”

This is a far cry from how Democrats are acting currently, as Charlie points out: “Now? Well, now it’s fine. Now we have the mayors of New York and Chicago talking about trade-offs and the need for thoughtful policy, lest we have to spend our resources on untrammeled illegal immigration.”

Charlie says he “would wager that while there will be a few consistent progressives who say this is a terrible idea and that Joe Biden is given in to right-wing extremism or whatever, you will not see the concerted attempt to cast this as the rejection of all that is good and true in America.”
