The Obsession with Diversity Is Everywhere

Last year, North Carolina governor Roy Cooper appointed a commission charged with improving governance within the UNC system. What would you suppose would be the main concern of its meetings? Why, diversity of course!

In today’s Martin Center article, Ashlynn Warta writes about recent meetings of the commission.

She writes, “Among those who shared suggestions at the meeting, many expressed concerns about the diversity of the current board, with an emphasis on racial, gender, and political diversity. One commenter suggested the use of gender and racial quotas as a method of improving board diversity. Another touted the importance of monitoring appointees’ ‘ideologies’ (i.e., political affiliations).”

One might think that “progressives” are unable to think of anything else to say. Everything is about acceptance of their “diversity” worldview.

Warta correctly concludes, “From the conversation facilitated at these forums to the priorities presented by the commission itself, one message is quite clear: The only important considerations for some North Carolinians are what board members look like and which political party they support.”
