The Real Problem for Pro-Lifers

While I appreciate the attention and pressure that Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and others are keeping on the need to investigate and regulate the abortion-pill cocktail — the go-to for abortion these days — I wouldn’t hold my breath until the FDA commissioner is fired because of the slow pace of that review.

The problem isn’t Marty Makary. The problem isn’t RFK Jr. The problem is that Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America is no longer needed by the president. The pro-life cause was always a means to an end for Donald Trump rather than the human rights issue of our time.

The Republican Party has dropped ending abortion from its platform. That would have horrified some of the great pro-life leaders of the past.

Most abortions happen by pills today. Women get the drugs quietly at a pharmacy, or by mail in states where abortions are illegal. I was in Tennessee this week, and abortions are happening even though they are illegal there.

As abortion clinics become largely irrelevant, abortion is easier than ever to look away from. That’s a miserable reality for women — and obviously means death for their babies.

I used to watch the boxes of “medical waste” leave Planned Parenthood in Manhattan:

Now, women are likely to be told that the remains of their babies are akin to a really bad period.

Clearly, this topic is not a priority for the Trump administration. But the problem is much bigger than who sits atop the FDA or HHS.
